WSRE has celebrated local culinary arts for more than 25 years—long before the foodie craze took hold—with the annual Wine & Food Classic. This year’s theme: Savor and Surf Southern.

“When WSRE started the Wine & Food Classic, there weren’t a lot of other culinary events like there are today,” said Mary Riker, spokesperson for WSRE. “And long before there were cable shows dedicated to the kitchen, viewers relied on PBS to deliver cooking shows by chefs like Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and Pensacola’s own Earl Peyroux.”

Today, PBS has even more cooking talents by way of Martha Stewart, John Besh and popular shows such as “The Great British Baking Show,” “I’ll Have What Phil’s Having,” and “A Chef’s Life.” It’s only natural that WSRE would host a fundraiser with food and wine, Riker noted.
