More than 20 of the region's top chefs are coming together Friday to kick off WSRE's 27th annual Wine & Food Classic at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Front, 12 Via de Luna, Pensacola Beach. The "Grand Southern Tasting," the first event in this year's "Savor & Surf Southern"-themed series of offerings, is set for 6 p.m., and will feature contributions from Joe Abston of Pot Roast & Pinot, William Briand of Fisher's at Orange Beach, Matthew Brown of The Fish House, Mike DeSorbo of Culinary Productions, host Chef Dan Dunn of the HIlton's H2O, John Huggings of La Brisa, Chris Pichotta of V. Paul's Italian Ristorante, Gregg McCarthy of The Grand Marlin, Chrisoula Hulion of Chrisoula's Cheesecake Shoppe, Alex McPhail of Restaurant Iron, Betsy LeGallis and Sue Shattuck of So Gourmet, Eric Troup of Margaritaville Beach Hotel, Paulette Martin of Nouveau Pastries & Catering, Mike Tilton of Jubilee Oyster Bar & Grille, Jerry Mistretta of Jerry's Bistreaux Catering, Chris Tingle of McGuire's Irish Pub, Brody Olive of Coast Restaurant & Spectrum Resort, Chris Sherrill of the Flora-Bama Yacht Club, Tyler Simmons of Jaco's Bayfront Bar & Grille, John Smith of Hemingway's Island Grill and Shayne Taylor of the Pensacola Country Club.
The evening will feature samples of dishes from these chefs, as well as fine wines and music by the Uptown Trio. "Beach Cocktail" attire is required. Tickets are $40, available by phone at 484-1054, or visit www.wsre.org/wineandfood.
The event continues next weekend with a free meet and greet and book signing with celebrity chef John Besh at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at So Gourmet, 407 S. Palafox St. Besh will sign his new cookbook, "Besh Big Easy," which will be available for purchase. A sold-out VIP dinner with Besh at Jackson's Steakhouse will round out this year's Classic events.
