Today’s culinary excursion is to the low country of Savannah followed by a stop in the Crescent City. The tour is courtesy of Dora Charles, author of “A Real Southern Cook: In her Savannah Kitchen” (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, $25), and John Besh, author of “Besh Big Easy: 101 Home Cooked New Orleans Recipes” (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $25).
Recipes and stories from Charles, who is Paula Deen’s former restaurant cook, to those from classically trained James Beard Award-winning chef John Besh are sure to keep you engaged.
Dora Charles is a former cook/manager for Paula Deen, having worked in her kitchen for 22 years. This is her first cookbook and one that she hopes will inspire others to find the joy and family connection that home-cooked food can bring.
